African Masters Athletics Champs

The African Masters Athletics Championships were held in Pretoria from 16 to 18 November 2023. 

22 KZN masters athletes represented South African masters athletics participating in a number of events across track, field, road and cross-country disciplines.

KZN masters athletes returned with 38 medals in total (22 Gold, 8 Silver and 8 Bronze medals)

Race Walk

Elizabeth Howard-Davies, Gill Tregenna, Caryn Loudon, Belinda Padbury, Margariet Wrethman, Laurel Oettle, Les Williams, Andre Vosloo and Oliver Mundell all participated in the 5000m race walk and 10km road race walk.

Special congratulations to Gill Tregenna for two gold medals and for setting a new African and South African Masters record for the 10km race walk in the Women 80+ category!

Belinda Padbury also won two gold medals setting a new PB in the 10km event.

In the 10km walk, Caryn Loudon won gold in the W55-59 age group and Les Williams won gold in the M70-74 age group.

Track

Our sprinters showed their speed winning 13 medals in the 100m, 200m and 400m events.

Well done to Elizabeth Alexander, Delia Vaz, Shona Hutchinson, Richard Emslie, David Fourie, Moses Naidoo and Pieter Koekemoer.

Special congratulations to Moses Naidoo for his excellent 100m PB (11.79s) and for achieving the highest age grade % for his 400m race (92.32%).

Jumps:

Adrian Carolan won gold in the M50 long jump with a leap of 5.90 m – well done Adrian!

Throws:

In the throwing events Wessel Moolman secured a victory in the M45 Javelin. 

Angela Cilliers had a busy weekend participating in the Discuss, Hammer, Shot Put, Weight Throw and the Throws Pentathlon winning 3 bronze medals. Congrats Angela!
